FAQ

Q.   Are all your teachers qualified?

A.   Yes. We check all CVs and references to ensure that teachers meet the NEAS requirements. All teachers are interviewed on the telephone. However, institutions have different requirements and sometimes there is a mismatch. All we ask is that you let us know if you don’t want a particular teacher again. Similarly, if you really like a teacher we will try to get them for repeat assignments.

Q.   What if a relief teacher is ideal for a short (or long) term contract at our school?

A.   Registered institutions agree to pay Subster a fee to transfer the teacher to their payroll from ours. Remember that by checking out prospective teachers through the Subster you save on advertising, CV culling, interviewing and setting up demonstration lessons.

Q.   How early do I need to call to get a teacher?

A.   In our experience, if we receive the call two hours in advance (ie, 7:00 am for a 9:00 am start) we can get a teacher to you. However, at really busy times of the year, shrewd DOS book the previous evening to be guaranteed a teacher.

Q.   Can I contact Subster on the weekend to book teachers?

A.   It is our policy to be contactable by telephone at all times. We try to ensure that you speak to a person not an answering machine so that you know immediately that your request has been received. However, answering services, both office and mobile, are regularly checked so you should receive confirmation within the hour.

Q.   Are there times when you can’t get a teacher?

A.  We have enough teachers on the books to cover many colleges and are always recruiting more.

Q.   How do we pay for the service?

A.  Subster requires the institutions to pay upfront. If by some reason a teacher does not show up we will send a replacement and or refund your payment.

Q.   In our school, teachers find their own replacements. Can we still use the Subster service?

A.  Subster 's contact is usually the DoS or person authorised to find relief teachers. If Subster is authorised to do so, we will respond to direct requests from your staff.

Q.   If we use Subster will we have to give up our own relief list?

A.   No. Subster clients use the service in different ways. Some institutions get all their relief teachers from us while others call us only in dire emergencies. However, we are able to retain teachers on a relief list by having broad coverage of a large number of institutions and being able to offer a steady stream of work. Teachers, institutions and Subster all benefit from the arrangement. In fact it’s a WIN – WIN – WIN situation!
